Statement of Faith

Giving our children a Christian worldview is seen as a priority. All true wisdom and knowledge comes from God. Therefore, all subjects are taught from the viewpoint that God created this knowledge. In addition, prayer, scripture reading, and devotion times are part of the daily schedule. Here is our school’s statement of faith (Adapted from the Association of Christian Schools International):

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:14-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 10:27-33).

We believe in:
-
The deity of Christ (John 10:33; Colossians 2:9)
-
His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35)
-
His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-22)
-
His miracles (John 2:11; 5:19-23)
-
His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9; 2 Corinthians 15:3-4)
-
His resurrection (John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 10:9-10)
-
His Ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19; Ephesians 4:8-10)
-
His personal return in power and glory (Mark 13:24-27; Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-14)

We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature, and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone are we saved and are kept by the power of God unto eternal salvation (Genesis 6:5, 8:21; John 3:16-19, 3:36, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:1-10; Titus 3:4-5).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28).

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18).

Statement of Institutional Beliefs

We believe in the literal Biblical account of creation in accordance with Genesis 1 and 2.

We believe the church is essential for the spiritual growth and maturity of a believer (Matthew 18:15-17; Ephesians 4:11-13;
1 Corinthians 12:14-27; Hebrews 10:24-25).

We affirm the following non-denominational statements:

Statements on Marriage, Gender & Sexuality, and the Sanctity of Human Life

We believe in the biblical definition of marriage as the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union for life (Genesis 2:18-25) and that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe marriage is between one man and one woman for life and that it uniquely reflects Christ’s relationship with His Church (Eph. 5:21-33). We believe that marriage also serves as the foundational unit of a stable society (1 Cor. 7:2). We believe that any form of sexual immorality, as Biblically defined, is sinful and offensive to God (Matt.15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10).

We believe that mankind is woven together by God in the womb and that they are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (Psalm 139:13-14). We believe God creates each person as male (man) or female (woman). These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). We believe that since each person is made in the image of God, every person has value, and must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Col. 3:12-14;Luke 6:31). We affirm the 2017 Nashville Statement on Biblical Sexuality.

We believe all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, born and unborn. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalm 139; Jeremiah 1:5).

Statement of Non-Affiliation

RECA neither supports nor endorses any world, national, or regional organization which gives Christian recognition to unbelievers or which advocates cooperation with different religions (Amos 3:3, 2 Corinthians 6:14-17). Because RECA is a Protestant Christian school exalting the deity of Christ and salvation by grace alone through faith, we will not accept students whose family church ascribes to beliefs or practices that are incompatible with our statements.

Statement of Non-Denominational Position

RECA does not promote or endorse any particular denomination, but we resolutely affirm biblical and theological truth. We stand firm on our Statement of Faith and believe that ultimate authority rests with the Word of God. In situations where biblical doctrine is discussed and there is disagreement, we encourage those involved to study what the Bible says on the matter (2 Timothy 2:14-15). Furthermore, we require conversations on topics and beliefs that carry denominational significance for certain individuals to be conducted with gentleness and reverence (1 Peter 3:15). Our desire is to remain united in our common salvation, love of Christ, and Statement of Faith, holding fast to historic and clear biblical teaching (Philippians 2:16), while avoiding the dissension often brought about by certain denominational distinctives.

Statement of Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct

River’s Edge Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of this ministry’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Board of Directors of River’s Edge is the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
